Mina Corpuz –– Staff Reporter
Meet Mina Corpuz (’13): FHS Junior, fellow music enthusiast, and aspiring opinions writer. She is brilliant. You just don’t know it yet.
Although she is new to the class of Journalism, she is no stranger to publication writing. Corpuz was once a member of her middle school’s year book class. This 2011-2012 school year she wishes to transcend her writing prowess through the InFlight student paper. “I like the writing aspect of journalism” she smiles. “You get to choose different topics and make it your own.”
Corpuz is mostly interested in the Opinions writing portion of the paper, as she was majorly unable to have one in yearbook. When asked why she chose to write for InFlight, she replied by explaining that throughout the years, she has read all our papers and has thoroughly enjoyed them. She also “loves the idea that it is run by students.”
And right she is. Class editors and reporters make the school paper into a functional, tangible commodity for the FHS public. Throughout this process, we become an entire entity, rather than secular forces. This is what draws Corpuz to the class: “I love the family aspect,” she says.
Over the summer, Corpuz was able to grow and learn through SAT preparatory classes offered at Elite. She was also able to find herself in Camp Ryla (a rotary youth leadership summer camp for teens): “For once in my life I actually got to be myself. This never happens.” Corpuz would like to continue writing and making herself known during her years at Foothill High.
Besides writing, Corpuz laughingly confesses that she finds annoying instruments entertaining to play. “I play the crash symbols and the piccolo…which people usually try to stay away from.” She lovingly compares her piccolo instrument to “a kid screaming at you” and her clash symbols to an “obnoxious cacophony of melody.”
Mina Corpuz plans to develop her writing and people skills through her first year with InFlight. She is banking on a learning as well as fun experience. Readers await the journalistic skills and talents of Miss Corpuz with baited breath.
